Korean BBQ Chicken (Better Than Takeout)

There’s something magical about Korean BBQ. The rich umami from soy sauce, the gentle sweetness from honey, and the smoky grill flavor all come together in a way that makes your taste buds do a happy dance. This Korean BBQ Chicken is my go-to when I want a quick dinner that feels like a treat — juicy, caramelized, and absolutely bursting with flavor. The best part? It’s easier and faster than picking up takeout.

Whether you’re making it for a family dinner, a weekend gathering, or a meal-prep lunch, this recipe never disappoints. Pair it with fluffy steamed rice, kimchi, and some crisp cucumber salad for the full Korean-inspired experience.

Ingredients

1/3 cup soy sauce

3 tablespoons brown sugar

2 tablespoons honey

2 tablespoons rice vinegar

1 tablespoon sesame oil

3 cloves garlic, minced

1 teaspoon grated fresh ginger

1 teaspoon chili flakes (optional, for a little heat)

1 lb boneless chicken thighs or breasts

Sesame seeds & sliced green onions for garnish

Instructions

1. Make the Marinade
In a bowl, whisk together soy sauce, brown sugar, honey, rice vinegar, sesame oil, garlic, ginger, and chili flakes (if using).

2. Marinate the Chicken
Place chicken in a zip-top bag or shallow dish. Pour the marinade over the chicken, making sure each piece is coated. Marinate for at least 30 minutes (or up to 8 hours for deeper flavor).

3. Cook the Chicken
Heat a grill pan or skillet over medium-high heat. Cook the chicken for 5–6 minutes per side, or until fully cooked and caramelized.

4. Serve & Garnish
Slice the chicken, sprinkle with sesame seeds and green onions, and serve hot.

Tips & Variations

For extra smoky flavor: Grill the chicken over charcoal or gas instead of stovetop.

Make it spicier: Add a teaspoon of gochujang (Korean chili paste) to the marinade.

Meal-prep tip: This chicken tastes amazing cold in sandwiches or wraps the next day.

Storage: Store leftovers in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 3 days.

💡 This Korean BBQ Chicken is proof that you don’t need takeout to enjoy restaurant-quality flavor — just a handful of ingredients and a hot pan.
